What’s been my biggest leadership challenge?
Having to restructure a global function to implement a new strategy, digital technologies, change ways of working and deliver cost savings. The changes were needed but unfortunately meant redundancy for a large number of good people.
What made it so difficult?
I liked and respected the people impacted and empathised with how it felt for them. It impacted me differently, I felt uncomfortable and sorry as it put people through a lot of disruption and uncertainty. However, I made it my goal to treat everyone affected with respect and support them.
What helped me overcome this challenge?
I was lucky. I had support from my boss, my external coach and a great leadership team who stepped up to lead the change too. I ultimately received thanks from those who had been impacted for the way it had been handled and I learnt a huge amount about myself.
What did I learn?
I learnt a lot about myself. I reflected that there were things I could do better, in particular being more proactive, checking in with everyone in the team more regularly and listening. The experience changed me as a leader, I was better for it, though I still regret the impact change had on people.
What’s my style as a thinking partner?
I work with successful and high potential people to boost their mojo and equip them to inspire people. Drawing on my experience, I help clients gain insight, see new possibilities, explore their strengths, define their purpose and story, boost their confidence and increase their impact. The results are authentic, inclusive leaders, more agile teams, motivated employees, successful transformation and better business performance.
I create a safe space to think in bold and fresh ways, balancing empathy and challenge to help clients be their ideal selves. Underpinning this, I work on unlocking limiting beliefs and releasing positive energy to boost your performance and inspire those around you, at work and in life.
I believe our work together should be fun, a positive experience. My approach is strongly informed by my core values of honesty, perspective, forgiveness and humour. I use a blend of techniques, including strengths-based coaching, positive psychology and narrative identity.
What's my professional background?
I have been a trusted adviser to senior leaders for more than 25 years, having worked as a strategy and communication partner to CEOs, divisional leaders and general managers, with extensive experience in the Pharmaceutical, Financial Services and Property/Real Estate sectors.
I have been a member of management teams in commercial, supply chain and corporate headquarters areas for companies like Barclays and GlaxoSmithKline, and have led communications functions at country, divisional and global levels. My expertise includes deep know-how in employee engagement, culture and transformation.
Having worked in complex, global companies, I have first-hand experience of the demands facing leaders and organisations today. I have advised on numerous change and transformation programmes, including supporting new CEOs, launching business strategies, driving behaviour and culture change, restructuring, integration following mergers and acquisitions, and deploying transformational technologies.

What people are saying
“This session surpassed my expectations. I was particularly impressed with exploring what is my ‘why’ – especially when my words were played-back and I had the chance to sit with my responses and reflect. This was extremely powerful and when I explored the question again, I was humbled by the outcome. I felt challenged in a very safe environment, which allowed my inner emotions to be stimulated and the authentic me released.”
Jason, Senior Director, Research & Development, Pharmaceutical Company
